Before the end of 2015, Springboard, in partnership with Saathi India, will commence the production of affordable natural sanitary pad made from banana and plantain stem for rural girls in Nigeria. This product will be branded GreenPads. Springboard produces tones of banana and plantain stem from its farms annually. Over three million tonnes of these stems are produced annually in Nigeria, and then become agricultural waste. Springboard has found a way to add value to this waste by converting them into affordable sanitary pads for rural girls in Nigeria who cannot afford to buy the modern products. As a result, many of these girls miss out of classes every month during their menstrual cycle.
